HERITAGE APPEAL
In 1850, 11 Barrack Street began trading as the first savings bank in New South Wales, and has not stopped trading in one form or another since.
Throughout the years, the building has seen numerous modifications and changes in use. With the departure of a long-term tenant, the time was right for a significant refurbishment to reposition the asset and attract new tenants.
This refurbishment required careful adjustments to the heritage-listed interiors to ensure compliance with current codes and accessibility standards across the four floors and basement. An extensive due diligence process was conducted to identify areas requiring attention, allowing the building owner to invest funds in the most cost-effective manner.
As the lead consultant, our role was to assemble a team of heritage, building code, and council specialists that could negotiate the necessary approvals in a timely manner. Our goal was to ensure that the proposed modifications aligned with the budget while respecting the building's historical significance.
The successful refurbishment of 11 Barrack Street and the preservation of its unique character has resulted in the leasing of the entire building to one happy tenant.
