HIMALAYAN SCHOOL OF THE AIR PROGRAM

At Davenport Campbell, we believe every child deserves an education. For the last 5 years, Davenport Campbell has had an enduring partnership with the Australian Himalayan Foundation, with the commitment of delivering quality education in Nepal.

Many students have been effected by the impacts of COVID-19, with the children of Nepal being no exception. Schools closed in Nepal for over 6 months in 2020.

Davenport Campbell and our friends at NAWIC supported the Australian Himalayan Foundation and REED Nepal ‘School of Air’ program, created in response to school closures to ensure children were able to continue their learning.

Radios and workbooks were distributed to children and daily lessons were broadcast to over 25 districts in Solukhumbu. Many of these children were remote and in homes without Internet and electricity.

The program is estimated to have reached over 1.2 million kids, including girls and children with disabilities.

Over 900 students received direct support from a local teacher who were supported by TTQE (Teacher Training and Quality Education) to provide homeschooling support.

The School of Air enabled children to be supported and continue their education, during this turbulent time, and as a result, more than 97% of these students returned once schools reopened.

You can find out more about the program here.
